First Verse:
C
There's a man, going around, taking names
C
And he decides, who to free, and who to blame
C
Every body, won't be treated, quite the same
CAmF
There'll be a golden ladder, reaching down.
FGC
When the man comes around.
C
The hairs on your arm will stand up
C
At the terror in each Sip and each sup
C
Will you partake of that last offered cup
CAmF
Or disappear into the potter's ground
FGC
When the man comes around.
Chorus:
C
Hear the Trumpets hear the pipers
C
One hundred million angels singing
CFCG
Multitudes are marching to a big kettledrum
G
Voices calling, voices crying
G
Some are born and some are dying
GC
It's Alpha and Omega Kingdom come
CFC
And the wirldwind in the thorn trees
C
And the virgins are all trimming their wicks
CFC
The wirldwind in the thorn trees
C
It's hard for thee to kick against the pricks
C
Till Armageddon no shalom, no shalom
Second Verse:
C
Then the father hen will call his chicken's home
C
The wise man will bow down before the thorn
CAmF
And at his feet they will cast the golden crowns…
FGC
When the man comes around.
C
Whoever is unjust let him be unjust still
C
Whoever is righteous let him be righteous still
C
Whoever is filthy let him be filthy still
CAmF
Listen to the words long written down
FGC
When the man comes around
Chorus:
C
Hear the Trumpets hear the pipers
C
One hundred million angels singing
CFCG
Multitudes are marching to a big kettledrum
G
Voices calling, voices crying
G
Some are born and some are dying
GC
It's Alpha and Omega Kingdom come
CFC
And the wirldwind in the thorn trees
C
And the virgins are all trimming their wicks
CFC
The wirldwind in the thorn trees
Outro: (Spoken)
N/С
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts
and I looked and behold, a pale horse
and its name it said on him was Death
And Hell followed with him.
GG7CG
There once was a musical troupe a pickin singin folk group
CGFDD7
they sang the mountain ballads and the folk songs of our land
GG7CG
They were long on musical ability folks thought they would go far
CGDG
but political incompatibility led to their downfall
CG
well the one on the right was on the left
DG
and the one in the middle was on the right
CG
and the one on the left was in the middle
DD7G
and the guy in the rear was a Methodist
This musical agregation toured the entire nation
singing the traditional ballads and the folk songs of our land
they performed with great virtuosity and soon they were the rage
but political animosity prevailed upon the stage
well the one on the right was on the left
and the one in the middle was on the right
and the one on the left was in the middle
and the guy in the rear burned his drivers license
Well the curtain had ascended a hush fell on the crowd
as thousands there were gathered to hear the folk songs
of our land
but they took their politics seriously and that night
at the concert hall
as the audience watched deliriously they had a free-for-all
well the one on the right was on the bottom
and the one in the middle was on the top
and the one on the left got a broken arm
and the guy in the rear, said, "oh dear"
Now this should be a lesson if you plan to start a folk group
dont go mixin politics with the folk songs of our land
just work on harmony and diction play your banjo well
and if you have political convictions keep fem to yourself
now the one on the left works in a bank
and the one in the middle drives a truck
the one on the rightFs an all-night deejay
and the guy in the rear got drafted

AEAEA
I have been ungrateful/ i've been unwise

AEF#mDEA
Maybe I'll be able from now on/ on my knees
ADAD
Он, Онhh, I am weak/ Он I know that I am vain
AEDA
take this weight from me/ let my spirit be/ unchained
VERSE 2: (SAME СНОRDS AS VERSE 1)
Оld man swearin' at the sidewalk And I am overcome Seems that we've both

Have I seen an angel Оr have I seen a ghost Where's that rock of ages When

It's so hard to see the rainbow Through glasses dark as these Maybe I'll be
able From down on my knees

I'm just a poor wayfaring stranger

DmAm
In that bright land to which I go
Chorus:

And all my loved ones who've gone on
Am
I'm just going over Jordan
DmAm
I'm just going over home
Verse:

Chorus:
FC
I'm going there to see my Mother
FEE7E
She said she'd meet me when I come

I have sailed the peaceful waters of the ocean deep and blue
G7C
I held my breath and watched the western sunsets golden hue
I've flown above the mountain peaks and valleys wide and green
G7C
But you're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen
FC
You're the nearest thing to heaven yes you are
G7C
I have searched for happiness so long and far
F
But my search for love was through the day that I found you
CG7C
Cause you're the nearest thing to heaven yes you are
I confess that I've been tempted by alluring magic charms
G7C
When a smile was flashed my way and stood before two open arms
But I turn and walk away because I love you like I do
G7C
You're the nearest thing to heaven darling you
Repeat #2
I have watched the silver raindrops fall to earth to cool the day
G7C
Watched the rainbow at twilight when the clouds had blown away
I love the pretty flowers but he cannot buy their worth
G7C
But you're the nearest thing to heaven on this earth
